(12 black-and-white halftone postcards, in original envelope) [as new, with only some minor wrinkling to the envelope] (B&W photographs) A set of 12 postcards (each 4-1/4" x 5-1/2"), depicting various scenes and personages connected with Hollywood's oldest unsolved murder, that of film director/playboy William Desmond Taylor in 1922. This set was issued (in an unknown quantity) in connection with Sidney Kirkpatrick's book, which told "The Sensational True Story of Hollywood's Most Scandalous Murder--Covered Up for Sixty Years," and purported to present the solution (at last!) by marshaling and interpreting the evidence collected by film director King Vidor in his later years. (The book, however, although a compelling read, left many people unconvinced.) The twelve postcards, with captions on the reverse, include portraits of all the principals in the case (Taylor himself; girlfriends/purported lovers Mabel Normand, Claire Windsor, and Mary Miles Minter; MMM's mother Charlotte Shelby; chauffeur (and brother of Taylor) Dennis Deane Tanner; next-door neighbor/witness Faith MacLean), Vidor and Kirkpatrick, and a couple of shots of the crime scene.
