(no dust jacket) [modest shelfwear, minor bumping/softening at tips, very slight fraying at a couple of tips, vertical wrinkling in spine cloth (binding fully intact), diagonal wrinkle in cloth at lower corner of rear cover]. (4 B&W film stills) Burnett's first published novel, and the basis for one of the most successful early gangster films, the 1930 Warner Bros. film that made an instant star of Edward G. Robinson. This edition, although it bears the A.L. Burt imprint on the spine, still has the original publication information (Lincoln MacVeagh/The Dial Press, 1929) on the title and copyright pages, indicating that it was probably printed from the original plates (as opposed to having a new A.L. Burt title page created). Considering the popularity of the film, this photoplay edition is surprisingly scarce.
