[minor wear only to book; the jacket is a bit edgeworn, with a few tiny closed tears, little piece missing at lower corner of rear panel]. "A survey of contemporary sex studies," examining the findings and/or theories of Sigmund Freud, Havelock Ellis, and Dr. Alfred Kinsey. It was, of course, the latter's publication of his first report (the one about men) in 1948 that got everybody thinking and talking about sexuality (OK, there may have been other reasons), and occasioned this particular survey of the field. Its companion volume, "Sexual Behavior in the Human Female," didn't appear until 1953, and therefore is not considered in this book, which was first published in 1949 by Stravon Publishers. My assumption is that this edition was issued more or less concurrently with the more common softcover issue by Plaza Book Company, insofar as it still attributes the copyright to Stravon, 1949, rather than to Plaza. (I have seen examples of the softcover issue with the copyright stated both ways: either Stravon 1949 or Plaza 1954.) The cover designs of the two Plaza editions are quite different, with this somewhat "artsy-er" version possibly intended to appeal to the more serious hardcover buyer. (The back covers on both editions, however, are equally tacky, carrying slightly salacious ads for other sex-related Plaza Books -- in this case, "The Pleasure Primer," which promises the reader "Rollicking Bedside Fun," presumably as an antidote to the more sober and clinical content of the book itself. See second scanned image with this listing.)
