(price-clipped) [decent copy, fading to cloth at top/bottom edges, bottom corners a bit frayed (boards exposed), previous owner's signature and address on front pastedown; jacket is only Fair, well-worn, missing several pieces (2-inch triangular piece at lower right corner of front panel, jagged piece about 1-1/2" deep at top of spine, various smaller bits here and there), although the front jacket panel illustration of a bunch of well-dressed swells is not too badly compromised]. Slightly trashy novel with a sophisticated air, in the best Macaulay manner, a "romantic-realistic novel of earth and sky. Out of the drab humdrum of modern life the author creates a colorful type of swashbuckler, a professional aviator, whose astonishing adventures in love rival those of the swaggering musketeers of the romantic age. Surcharged with the magic of the sky, Don Cameron, daredevil sky rider, was a rascal among women. A sweetheart in every airport. A series of women, enticing or immoral, leads him through a maze of passion. Then a cold and haughty New York heiress [one of the two major types of NY heiresses, the other being "madcap"], whose creed it is to take all and give nothing, falls in love with him against her will." Isn't that always the way The disclaimer at the front is one of my favorites: "No character in this novel is anyone you know." Like most Macaulay novels, fairly uncommon in non-ex-lending library condition.
