Certificate of Discharge for a Chinese seaman aboard an Australian vessel in Honolulu -- Honolulu, Hawaii, August 24, 1880 -- Partially printed document filled out in ink. 26.5x21 cm (10x8"). -- Official discharge certificate "For seamen not discharged before a Superintendent of a Mercantile Marine Office," for the seaman Kong Kau, born in Zing San around 1860, from the ship "Spirit of the Age," registered in Sydney. The certificate is signed by the ship's master R. Williams, by the subject seaman in Chinese, and by the acting vice consul of Her Britannic Majesty, likely Thomas W. Walter. Docketed Kon Kau on verso. -- Old folds, 2" crease tear neatly repaired with minimal loss, very good.
