With numerous illustrations in the text, with 5 double-page landscapes, hand colored by Annette von Eckardt. Original half cloth binding with spine label (signed: Frieda Thiersch on bottom inside back cover). In the original slipcase. Fine, internally clean and bright, only the spine has a few spots. The limitation page says all copies are numbered and signed. I have been unable to find a signature in the copy with the number 103. Privately printed for William B. Osgood Field. He was president of the New York Grolier Club from 1924-1928, the oldest bibliophile association in the USA still in existence today. - On Zanders laid paper with Field's watermark. - English text. - Five double-page illustrations after drawings by Edward Lear were reproduced as collotype prints and hand-colored by Annette von Eckhardt. - The title was drawn by Anna Simons. The indispensable bibliography of the great nonsense poet and artist, detailing the personal collection of Osgood Field, as well as copies from other sources, with extensive descriptions by Bertha Coolidge Slade. The collection includes first editions of Lear, original water color drawings, sketch books and manuscript diaries. The book includes a new interpretation of Lears life based on the diaries.
