Full brown calf on heavy boards. Both covers waterstained. Bookplate of previous owner in each volume. No writing. Corner tips worn. Volume II shows gutter strain to one gathering (194-208) but still holding together well. This long satiric poem casts aspersion upon Puritans, Presbyterians, Cromwellians, Roundheads, and Parliamentarians during the English Civil War, in which they were opposed by the Cavaliers, or Royalists, of whom Butler was one. Butler is said to have had many enemies and few friends. Each volume has 436 pp. with index. Very heavy books will need extra postage.
