Original chestnut cloth over boards, with colour pastedown of a female singer with a conductor behind her. Hinges firm. Small area of whiteout on front free endpaper. 1" section at top back corner of cover where the cloth is worn (board is visible). Two pages of advertising. This book was based on a play by the same name by Edward Locke. It is about a demented physician who becomes obsessed with a young singer who sounds like his late mistress. There were also two movies made (one starring Boris Karloff).
