Part of M. A. Donohue & Co."s "The Golden Days Series;" no publication date given. 346 pp., orange cloth boards with black lettering, pastedowns show silhouette of boy fishing with dog at his side, glossy color frontispiece tipped in of three boys fishing. Front board is spotted, spine sunned and frayed along top and back edge, corners bumped and chipped, webbing exposed between frontispiece and title page. Appears to be ex-library because it has a "Date Due" slip inside, although no other stamps; PO name inside. Text has 2" dampstain which intrudes into margin approx 1/2", but does not affect text; tiny wormhole, although worm is long gone. Small tape shadow on title page, 2" tear on p. 25. From the Preface: "I do not offer Fred Landon to you, my young friends, as a perfect example; he has his faults, like the rest of us, and you may improve upon the model as much as you will. But if my little story shall amuse and instruct you, and while it does this, shall also convince you of the beauty of old-fashioned obedience to parents and other lawful authority, respect for superiors, and chivalrous conduct towards the weak and defenseless, and above all, shall stir up those of you to whom the trust will one day be committed - earnestly to watch over and defend the liberties of our beloved land, putting down every form of lawlessness and vice, and seeing to it that our laws are made and executed by good men, and true - it will have accomplished its mission."
