Red cloth with gold lettering, xiii + 606 pp, index, chapter notes, 28 full page maps, 62 b/w illustrations from original paintings and engravings. Spine cocked and a bit faded, corners bumped, a little edge wear, some spotting to bottom and leading edge, owner's name on front end paper. Pages appear clean and unmarked. Jacket in new Brodart, some edge wear and small tears especially at top and base of spine, a little rubbing and darkening. A nice copy. "Here in a single volume is a straightforward, authoritative, fascinating account of the dramatic ghrowth, and the commercial and political development, of the American colonies between 1664 and 1765.
"From settlements along the Atlantic seaboard, a diverse group of people under English rule were pushing hardily westward and making hostile contact with the equally active partisans of France and Spain. The prize was to be the North American continent. Yet, in the struggle that followed, the apparent winner was to be the actual loser. The pawns in the game - the American colonists - were to sweep the board.
"Under the watchword of 'Liberty and Property' a new nation was to arise. "; 7" - 9" Tall
