Pale gray boards with red backstrip and black titles. Edge, corner and surface wear with boards showing in places. Book is square and binding is secure. Interior pages on slick paper are in excellent condition. Very early and quite scarce Georgia county history. On ffep is written in pencil, "Compliments of County Board of Education." The book has a brief discussion of pre-history in the area, then covers the period from the founding of Georgia until 1911. The Cherokee Removal is discussed and this is an interesting comment. " The Cerokees. (were) fairly civilized, peaceable and well-governed. There conduct afforded no ecuse for the use of force, and they stood upon their treaty rights in refusing to sell their lands." This probably did not describe the feelings of the whites in Murray County in the 1830's.; B&W Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 48 pages; .
