Red cloth with gilt titles and decoration on spine. Some edge and corner wear but still square and secure. ; B&W Drawings; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 454 +ads pages; Mrs. Robert Lee was a British naturalist and writer, originally married to Thomas Bowdich, a well-known naturalist and traveller. After Bowdich's death, while the two were in Africa, Mrs. Lee supported herself and her children through writing, mainly on birds and animals including a work on taxidermy. The African Crusoes was published initially in England as The African Wanderers. I am assuming that this is the First American edition, though it may be a later printing. Relatively uncommon in any edition. Not in Blockson.
