McElroy was from the Company L, 16th Illinois Cavalry and spent time in the Confederate Prisons in Richond, Andersonville, Savannah, Millen, Blackshear and Florence. He recounts, as many soldiers did, the horrors of the prison camps. These two volumes belonged to another soldierM. L.
