Softcover edition of Hamlin Garland's third novel, which was issued in hardcover this same year. This copy is square and securely bound. There is an early and well-done tape repair on the spine. Please see scans. Otherwise this copy has only light edge and corner wear along with expected aging. Of some interest is the Columbia Bicycle ad on the rear wrap which has an image of a rider, or "wheelman" in the ad, on a bike. The image on the front shows three politicians in a smoke-filled room, with the gesticulating man saying, "Give me a hundred thousand dollars, and I'll capture any legislature in this great and glorious" The more things change, the more they stay the same. ; 12mo 7" - 7" tall; 239 pages
