This is a first edition of Steinbeck's famous novel, Cannery Row, set in Monterey, California, during the Great Depression. It is my understanding that the yellow boards, with title and faint lines in blue, is the second state binding, perhaps before publication. The book is VG with light edge and corner wear. There is a rectangular 3x5" stain on the back. The dust jacket is G-, with a large piece torn off the top front that removes the C in the title, plus wear on the spine and folds. The book is not price clipped ($2.00) and there is the statement of compliance with the War Production Board. Included is a clipping from the St. Petersburg Times, July 17, 1988, The Real Cannery Row by Malcolm Jones, who was then the book editor for the Times.; Small 8vo 7" - 8" tall; 208 pages
