This is a photo from the Associated Press of Herman Talmadge announcing that he was running to fill the unexpired term of his father Eugene Talmadge, in Lawrenceville, GA, July 31, 1948. Gene had died before taking office resulting in the "Three Governors" mess which was sorted out by the GA Supreme Court with Melvin Thompson serving until a special election in November 1948. Herman won that and a further term in 1950, despite allegation of fraud. This sems to be a reprint, as the AP cutline is part of the photo. It's a great photo of Herman, who was on crutches due to an auto accident. He looks rather like a preacher waving a Bible! ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall
