A book About the Table starts with Grace at Meals and covers just about every topic concerning food you can imagine, including historical facts, primarily about England. Volume ! goes through Soups, Volume 2 starts with Fish, then after Desserts has chapters on such topics as The Folklore of Feeding , Political Gastronomy and Cook Books. Bound in marbleized paper, quarterbound with leather , ribbed spine. The first edition set is in G+ condition, with a few pages and one of the bookplates loose and some damage to the marbleized endpapers in Vol. 2. Jeaffreson's other works include A Book About Lawyers, A Book About Doctors and A Book About Clergy. An interesting feature is that each volume has the bookplate of Alfred Henry Lewis, and American investigative journalist, short story writer and novelist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On close inspection, the bookplate reveals a shelf of books with the title of Lewis's works, a nice association.; Vol. 1&2; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 324, 352 pages
