This is new translation based on a revised text together with the origin, growth and interpretation of the songs by Morris Jastrow as a companion to his two other books about the Bible, The Book of Job and A Gentle Cynic (Ecclesiastes). It's a very atractive book, with a red cloth cover decorated in black, and a tan DJ with the same illustration. Published posthumously by Jastrow's wife Helen, the book presents Jastrow's interpretaion that these are a collection of secular love songs. There is a frontispiece illustrationfrom Song Six, Love in the Fields. The book is near fine, the DJ VG+ with a little wear to corners and a small scuff on the spine. It seems to be price clipped but the $3.00 price appears on the spine. ; Frontispiece Engraving, B&W; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 220 pages
