Harold Courland was a novelist, folklorist, musicologist and anthropologist, who is also remembered for having successfully sued Alex Haley for using language and passages from Courlander's novel The African in Roots. This novel is a collection of tales told by Richard Creeks, a character portrayed as a wandering Negro minstrel in the South from Georgia to the Mississipi, observing his "big old world" and facing crises with the cunning of his folk hero, Brer Rabbit. The book is VG+ to near fine with minor shelf wear. The DJ is also VG+ with a little scuffing to the edges and spine. It is inscribed and signed "Hal" on the ffep.
