Quarterbound with black cloth and dark leather. Gilt titles on spine. Wear on edges, surfaces and corners with boards showing at corners. There has been obvious reglueing of hinges but binding is now square and secure. This repair appears to be older and has caused some adhesion near the gutters on the first few endpapers, front and back. Book still looks good on the shelf and is quite usable. ; B&W Engravings; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 724 pages; Hume wrote this history originally, from the Roman invasion through the revolution of 1688. Smollett then wrote a contnuation through the death of George II. This edition has the added continuation, by Campbell, into the reign of Victoria. This is Volume 1 only. This heavy volume will require extra postage - please inquire before paying.
