A first US edition (so indicated by publisher's circled 'R' on copyright page) of Corvette-Captain Fritz-Otto Busch's account of the sinking of the German battleship Scharnhorst during World War II. The ship had been very effective in sinking Allied ships, and was consequently hunted and sunk, resulting in the loss of nearly two thousand seamen. With 22 black & white photos showing the ship and scenes aboard her. Rendered into English from the German by Eleanor Brockett and Anton Ehrenzweig. --- In full blue linen-inish cloth-covered boards with spine titling in white. Volume wrapped in jacket with image of the ship at sea to cover. --- A well-preserved copy: tightly-bound and unmarked, though with mild age-toning to endpapers. Unclipped jacket ($3.50) also with moderate age-toning, otherwise in good shape and in new removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; 182 pages
