A handsome Heritage Press reprint edition in slipcase of the Dutch theologian's treatise, which purportedly protests the superstitions and habitual behaviors of religious institutions of his day. "The Praise of Folly" was originally written in Latin in 1509, and has also been translated as "In Praise of More." Translated from the Latin by Harry Carter, with woodcut illustrations by Franz Masereel and an introduction in the form a letter to the author by Willem Van Loon. Sandglass leaflet not present. --- Printed for the Heritage Press by Joh. Ensched En Zonen, Haarlem (Netherlands). Undated, but possibly published c.1950s. In yellow paper-covered boards with brown patterned illustrations of a dancing figure on a smiling globe; backed in brown cloth with gilt spine titling, brown topstain. In paper-covered slipcase bearing the same illustrations as on the covers. --- A clean, sound copy but with praiseful presentation remarks to both front and rear endpapers, complimenting student Elizabeth Dickinson for her admirable qualities as a student; and with a bit of dulling to spine titling. Slipcase with a little scuffing to corners, otherwise intact and structurally sound.; Tall Octavo (9 to 10 in. tall); xv, 125 pages
