Blakeney's condensed version of Sir William Smith's original Classical Dictionary, first published in the latter half of the 19th Century. Entries are presented in very small typeface, in two columns per page, divided by a center rule. With a section of 30 black & white plates depicting statuary and scenes from the ancient world. An entry in Everyman's Reference Library series. --- In full navy cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling & horizontal rules, compass design in blind to front cover and dark red topstain. Volume lacks a dust jacket. --- With prior owner's bookplate affixed to front free endpaper, 2 inked markings to cloth and small white spot to cover, else a tightly-bound, sound, otherwise unmarked copy.
