Light wear to extremities.; A bright, solid book .; Trade PB; B&W and Colour photographs; 171 pages; Parker #119 is a carousel, the 119th built by C. W. Parker at his factory in Leavenworth, Kansas. In 1936, this carousel ended up at Happyland in Vancouver BC, which became Playland and part of the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). There, it provided happiness for thousands of Vancouver and area children for more than 50 years. In 1988, the owners decided the ride was in too much of a state of disrepair to save, and sent it to the auction block. That is when the Lower Mainland Association of Friends of the Vancouver Carousel was formed to save and refurbish what they considered a city treasure. The book chronicles both the life history of the ride, and the process of restoration. Included are many colour photographs of each of the horses, plus other details on the ride.
