Book is bumped base of spine ; Une Aventure d'Astrix No.21; Colour Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 48 pages; "In 1959, in the month of August in a housing project in Bobigny, outside Paris, two comic book authors sweat blood to come up with an idea for a character. They must be ready for the first issue of Pilote, a new youth magazine which will be published three months later. The writer is Ren Goscinny and his designer friend is Albert Uderzo. . Finally Goscinny came up with the idea of a nasty little mustache and Gauls - Banco Asterix was born. And with it, a great publishing success coupled with a social phenomenon. He made his first appearance October 29, 1959 in the pages of Pilote. Then the album Asterix the Gaul released in bookstores modest in 1961. Circulation: 6000 copies. But the sales curve will only continue to rise. In 1966, 600,000 copies of Asterix in Britain soar in a fortnight. The little Gaul is on the cover of the weekly L'Express. Unheard of. The previous year, he even gave its name to the first French satellite. The intellectuals mingle their grain of salt, some lying Asterix resemblance to General de Gaulle Goscinny and Uderzo . do not care. They continue to have fun, to live a picturesque gallery of characters, to rewrite history and enjoy their subtle gags readers and visual finds. The death of Goscinny in 1977, will not end the adventure. Uderzo continues alone and founded the Editions Albert-Ren. Now it is he who will write the scripts, but not show the same talent as his predecessor. In total, the adventures of Asterix and his friend Obelix have sold over 280 million copies. An outstanding achievement in comics."
