Two very pretty prints which came from a disbound children's book. I bought then from a dealer who retired, but all during his long career he salvaged prints from books which fell on hard times. He has a note in it indicating that the prints came from Hawthorne's Tanglewood Tales published in 1927. Research shows a Rand McNally edition, but the art is different. I also found a Maxwell Parrish edition from 1927, but that, too, is not right. I did, however, find a photo of the print of Pandora opening the box of bad spirits and letting them out, so at least I know it existed beyond this one!The decorative page edges are especially handsome. Beneath Pandora it reads "She lifted the lid right up." Proserpina's reads, "Proserpina seized the large shrub and pulled." Both prints are immaculate with plain backs. They measure 6-3/4" x 9-1/4" and are noted O.A. in the lower right corners of both images.
