What a pretty little gift book this is. It shows a copyright date of 1865, but I know this is not the date of publication because the first edition was published by John Wiley and this publisher is H.M. Caldwell. I was hoping that the bookplate on the front pastedown would offer a clue, but I googled the name of the previous owner and he was the Dean of the Education Department of the University of Akron back in the 1950's. The book is clean and tightly bound and has a nice portrait of the famous Ruskin at frontis. Ruskin was a man of many subjects, especially art, but this book is about religion and moral values. Very prety cover design and top edge is gilded. Measures 4" x 6-1/2" and has 477 pages.
