This program for The Star-Wagon with Burgess Meredith and Lillian Gish surprised me with a little find in here. The original owner tucked in a little handwritten history. It says that the Empire opened in 1893 and continued to 1953. He also said that in Feb. 1927 actress Gail Kane and others were arrested following a performance of The Captive which was considered indecent and violated 1140A of the New York City criminal code!!!!!!But eleven years later Meredith and Gish were free to trod the boards in The Star Wagon, a play set in in the suburbs of a manufacturing company in eastern Ohio. The program shows some stubborn soil to back and a little edge wear to front, but overall is good. The scrap of history will be included.
