I almost passed on this little book because it looks like so many little blank notebooks printed in hard cover. Surprise! Believe it or not, it's the official handbook for Western Reserve University of Cleveland, Ohio! The school is now known as Case Western Reserve University. The little book measures just 3-3/4" x 5" and has 128 pages. There's local ads, lists of libraries, lists of football and basketball games, a spread showing the crests of the various organizations, and of course information on policies, rules, and benefits for students. There's also a fold-out with a maps of the campus. The back section is a daily diary. The young man who owned this one is Kenneth W. Thornton, Class of 1927, and member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Though he writes sporadically and the spaces are small, he manages to open a window on college life in the 1920's.
