Jenny Holzer, an important verbivisual artist emerging from the late-seventies and eighties downtown scene in New York, was born and raised in Ohio, and attended a number of colleges before earning her BFA from Ohio University in Athens. The main focus of her work is the delivery of words and ideas in public spaces. In her art, she has embraced and explored technology - high and low; her diverse practice incorporates a wide array of media including street posters, painted signs, stone benches, paintings, photographs, sound, video, projections, the Internet, and a race car for BMW. (Her wooden postcards were particularly collectible ephemera.) Text-based light projections have been central to Holzer's practice since 1996.
