Original Hardcover, Stated First Edition 1947 Fantasy Press 259 pages. Very Good, in a VG DJ. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear to pine green cloth boards with gilt spine titles - corners very lightly bumped. Minor shelf/edge wear, one closed tear and wrinkle and a touch of dust soiling to original unclipped DJ - now in mylar. Bright pink illustrated endpapers and frontispiece illustration by A. J. Donnell. Previous owner label on inside front cover, name and address on verso of FFEP. The Legion of Space is a space opera science fiction series by American writer Jack Williamson. The story began as a six-part serial in the pulp magazine Astounding, 1934. John Stewart Williamson (April 29, 1908 November 10, 2006), who wrote as Jack Williamson, was an American science fiction writer, often called the "Dean of Science Fiction" after the death of Robert Heinlein in 1988. The story takes place in an era when humans have colonized the Solar System but dare not go farther, as the first extra-solar expedition to Barnard's Star failed and the survivors came back as babbling, grotesque, diseased madmen. A very respectable copy in the DJ. LOC FB-04
