History of famous and venerated icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary housed at the Jasna Gra Monastery in Czstochowa, Poland. The four-foot-high painting displays a traditional composition well known in the icons of Eastern Christians. Many miracles are reported in its long and exciting history. This is just one - In 1919, the Red Army of the Soviet Union threatened Poland. At the beginning of the struggle with the Soviet Union, the Polish Army was joined by the French armies. On September 14 1919, the Soviet Army was shelling Warsaw. The next day, September 15 (The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows) the Soviets moved their guns closer and were confident Warsaw would fall the next day. That night there was no moon. Suddenly one Polish soldier saw a light in the clouds, and then another saw it. And within the light they saw Our Lady and her Child as they appear in the icon in the clouds. Hundreds of people are said to have seen this miracle at the Vistula and took courage at it. The Soviets were turned back and the war changed its course. Both Lenin and Stalin had a particular intense hatred of Poland for stopping the expansion of the Soviet Union in its early days. Respectable and scarce vintage copy venerating the famous icon.
