Hardcover, First Edition 1917 Cassell and Company London 280 pages. Good+, no DJ. Moderate shelf/edge wear to brown cloth boards with gilt spine titles - corners bumped and worn. Previous owner bookplate on FFEP. No writing inside - all pages are unmarked and some have foxing. Textblock edges have scattered foxing. With two portraits and two maps. Excellent, first person narrative by Lt. Commander William Whittall of the Royal Naval Armoured Car Division. He commanded the unit while fighting under the command of Generals Botha, Smuts, and Deventer. Winston Churchill revealed that General Botha was the man who captured him at the ambush of a British armoured train on 15 November 1899. Whittall saw action in both South-West Africa, as well as East Africa, and he gives an excellent, in depth telling of the events there during World War One. Respectable First Edition.LOC SSE-07
