Vintage Pre-War Hardcover with DJ, Book Club Edition 1934 Doubleday & Company New York 302 pages. Near Fine, in a VG+ DJ. Minor shelf/edge wear to black cloth boards with white spine titles - corners sharp. Minor shelf/edge wear and dust soiling (rear panel) to original DJ - now in mylar. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and unmarked. Deckled edges. It's amazing how nice pre-war paper holds up. The Saint is the nickname of the fictional character Simon Templar, featured in a series of novels and short stories by Leslie Charteris published between 1928 and 1963. The Saint has a dark side, as he is willing to ruin the lives of the "ungodly," and even kill them, if he feels that more innocent lives can be saved. In the early books, Templar refers to this as murder, although he considers his actions justified and righteous, a view usually shared by partners and colleagues. A very handsome pre-war Book Club Edition in DJ. LOC SSS-20
