Als, PAB, March 1967. Poems by Rene Char illustrated by Picasso with four cardboard-cuts in full page representing telluric masks. First edition, limited in 60 copies on Rive wove, signed in pencil by the artist and the author, of which this copy is one of the 50 numbered 22/50. Loose as issued, in chemise and slipcase. In very good conditions.
Ren Char explains in his preface, that Transparents have disapperead from the villages and forestes where they used to be seen, affable and voluble, they would speack in verse to the inhabitants, during the time it took to put down their bags and then pick them up again. To illustrate the semi-solar vagabod creatures, of Char poems, Picasso made some cardboard cut-out in 1966, of telluric masks, which were printed, and four of them were retained for the book. The cardboard cut-out is a natural development of celluloid engraving. Ref: Cramer 138
