Full title: Ka BAIBALA HEMOLELE O Ke Kauoha Kahiko A Me Ke Kauoha Hou; I Unuhiia Mailoko Mat, O Na Olelo Kahiko, A Ua Hooponopono Hou Ia, (The Holy Bible, of the Old Testament and the New Testament, translated from ancient tongues and revised. - The New Testament of our Lord and Saviour translated from the Greek. 1868, Nu Yoka (New York). 1456 pages. (5) 5 - 1132 Old Testament text, (3) 1135 - 1456 New Testament text. --- --- This is the First edition to incorporate a revised translation, that is considered better than the previous one. --- The bible was issued in a standard edition and a DeLuxe edition. This copy is one of the Deluxe versions, that were meant for use on the pulpit and for family use. They are larger than the standard copies (11" x 9" x 3", weight almost 8 lb) and came bound in black leather, were printed on better paper and all paper edges are gilded. (information from Forbes' Hawaiian National Bibliography, 2803) This copy has been professionally rebound in buckram in 1988 (see photo of invoice still in the bible). I guess after 120 years in the Hawaiian climate the leather binding fell apart. The new binding is well done and solid. Pages are slightly darkened, some have light spotting and smudging. Some traces of water damage in the beginning and end of the book, mostly in the margins only. Ships from Hawaii.
