Contains, sorted by design topic of the plaques: History of the plates - Old Testament - New Testament - Decorations, Allegories, Miscellaneous - Arms of France - Determined Coat of Arms - Mythology - History. Bound in navy blue half-basane, smooth spine decorated, title and author in gilt. First cover preserved. A very fine copy in excellent condition, binding impeccable, interior idem. Original covers bound in. FIREPLACE PLATES: Traditionally, the fire-plate protects the back of the chimney as a heat shield from chipping and cracking. In addition, the cast iron fire-plate absorbs heat (which would otherwise be lost) and returns it to the room. Thus, a cast iron fire-plate acts as a radiator and can therefore increase the efficiency of the fireplace by 50%. In addition, the fire-plate also has a decorative function in the fireplace, near the stove, in the kitchen as a backsplash or as a work of art on the wall.
