194 pp, frontispiece and six illustrations, notes at end. Ivory cloth boards, 6 1/4" x 4 3/8". Chipping to corners, moderate edge wear, chipping, a little soiling mainly on spine and back board. Spine has 1/8" strip at top, 1/4" at bottom missing, with some scuffing and sunning. Front board separated from text block, front free end paper missing. Text in very good condition, clean and unmarked. Silver embossed decorative stamped binding. A maroon, green and black floral design on front board. Spine has silver lettering and four bands with maroon background and ivory flowers outlined in silver. Frontispiece is a portrait of Sir Walter Scott. Six plates tipped in by noted 19th century illustrators Louis Michault Meynelle, Hiram P. Barnes, and others. The plates were under copyright to S.E. Cassino, a 19th and early 20th century publisher.
