A handsome Heritage Press reprint edition in slipcase of Oliver Goldsmith's comedic play, first performed in 1773. The story revolves around a high-born woman who poses as a maid in order to win the favor of a wealthy London man who prefers commoners. With illustrations and decorations by T. M. Cleland, a frontis image of Goldsmith after a portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds, and an introduction by Louis Kronenberger. Sandglass flyer laid in (New York, no. V:34). --- In green cloth-covered boards with gilt "OG" oval decoration to cover; titling in gilt on black spine block.
