An illustrated Heritage Press reprint edition of the 1909 novel by H. G. Wells, which features numerous wild plot twists. This story touches on the manufacture and marketing of a controversial patent medicine (Tono-Bungay), ups and downs of large businesses, high finance, stolen radioactive compounds, experimental aircraft and naval ships, among other things. With illustrations in both color and black & white by Lynton Lamb, and with an introduction by Norman H. Strouse. Drawings and handwritten notes by Mr. Wells are reproduced at mid-volume. Sandglass leaflet laid in (New York, no. VI: 26). --- In full orange cloth-covered boards with illustration to front cover, spine titling in gilt, red topstain. Volume housed in blue paper-covered slipcase. --- The front and back hinges had loosened and have been reinforced, with slightly sunned spine, else a tightly-bound, unmarked and bright copy. Slipcase has been repaired using blue paper, and with mild soiling but is structurally sound.
