Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (1622-1673), who wrote under his theatrical name Molire, used these plays to skewer French society of his day. Translated from the French by H. Baker and J. Miller, and with an introduction by Frederick C. Green. Number 830 in Everyman's Library "Poetry and the Drama" series. --- In Everyman's Library binding style 3 in full green cloth and gilt-stamped spine titling; blindstamped Eric Ravilious-designed 'shell' to cover and brown topstain. Volume wrapped in green dust jacket Ravilious-designed EL-on-shell variant to cover. --- A sound copy, though with prior owner's bookplate affixed to front free endpaper, otherwise tightly-bound and intact.
